Kicking off a busy fall reading schedule, I appeared last night with Stuart Bartow at Word Café, curated by Nina Shengold. Instead of the usual reading plus open mic scenario, Nina has featured writers give a short reading, followed by a craft talk, inspired by her trenchant questions and those of the audience. Then readers give a prompt, she gives a prompt, and everyone writes for 15 min. Anyone who wants to can get up and read what they’ve written, and also gets spare prompts to take home. There’s coffee and food, and everything in Outdated is for sale, so the decor is constantly changing. A truly fun and inspiring night of writing, even after a full day of work. These readings are Thursdays at 6:30, at Outdated: An Antique Cafe, 314 Wall Street, Kingston, NY. Reading and craft class. Contact Nina Shengold.
